PPCS Launches AIGAS: AI Governance Standard for Accounting Firms
PPCS Launches AI Governance Assurance Standard for Accounting Firms
Prime PC Services (PPCS), a technology consultancy specialising in cybersecurity and governance for accounting firms, has announced the launch of the PPCS AI Governance Assurance Standard (AIGAS) — a new framework designed to help accounting practices adopt Artificial Intelligence responsibly.
Artificial Intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and AI-powered features within accounting platforms are increasingly being used by firms to assist with drafting communications, analysing information and improving internal efficiency.
However, the rapid adoption of these tools has raised questions around governance, risk management and professional oversight. The AIGAS framework has been developed to provide accounting firms with a structured approach to managing these risks.
AI adoption within the accounting profession is accelerating quickly. Many firms are already experimenting with AI tools, but governance around how those tools are used is often unclear. We developed AIGAS to provide a practical framework that allows firms to adopt AI responsibly while maintaining the professional standards expected within the industry.

A Practical Governance Framework
The PPCS AI Governance Assurance Standard introduces a two-tier governance model designed to reflect the different stages of AI adoption within accounting firms.
Establishes foundational governance controls, including:
- Maintaining an AI tool register
- Implementing an AI acceptable use policy
- Ensuring human review of AI-generated outputs
- Assigning responsibility for AI oversight
Introduces more structured governance measures such as:
- Formal AI risk assessments
- Documented AI risk registers
- Defined governance roles and responsibilities
- Incident response procedures for AI errors
The framework is designed to be proportionate and achievable for small and mid-sized accounting firms.
Supporting Responsible AI Adoption
The structure of AIGAS has been designed with reference to governance principles used in ISO/IEC 42001 Artificial Intelligence Management Systems, the emerging international standard for AI governance.
PPCS emphasises that AIGAS is not an ISO certification scheme. Instead, the framework is intended to provide a practical governance foundation for firms adopting AI technologies. For organisations requiring internationally recognised certification, PPCS also provides support for ISO/IEC 42001 readiness and implementation.
Growing Demand for AI Governance
The launch comes at a time when the use of Artificial Intelligence within professional services is expanding rapidly. Accounting firms are increasingly exploring how AI can support tasks such as research, document review, communications and data analysis.
However, the introduction of AI systems also raises questions relating to:
- Client confidentiality
- Professional liability
- Data protection
- Reliability of AI-generated outputs
The AIGAS framework aims to help firms address these concerns while enabling responsible innovation.
Artificial Intelligence has the potential to significantly improve productivity across the accounting profession. But governance must evolve alongside technology. Firms that introduce structured oversight early will be better positioned to adopt AI confidently as the technology develops.
