Why AIGAS™ Needs an Independent Advisory Board
AI is already embedded across the accounting technology stack – from bookkeeping platforms to tax software, payroll, analytics, document automation, and client communication tools. But whilst adoption is accelerating, governance has not kept pace.
This is the gap AIGAS™ is designed to solve.
From the outset, PPCS has been clear on one principle: AIGAS™ must not be a vendor-led or commercially biased framework. For it to be trusted by accountants, regulators, insurers, and clients alike, it must be:
- ✓Independent in its thinking
- ✓Grounded in real-world risk and governance practice
- ✓Practical for firms of all sizes
- ✓Aligned with recognised governance principles and global standards such as ISO 42001
The AIGAS™ Advisory Board exists to ensure exactly that. It brings together experienced professionals from across technology, accounting, operational risk, regulation, cyber security, and governance – individuals who understand how frameworks work when they are tested in real organisations.

Group Head of Operational Risk
AI governance must be practical, risk-based, and capable of standing up to scrutiny. Accounting firms need frameworks that help them move forward confidently — not paperwork for its own sake, but governance that improves decision-making, resilience, and trust.
Why This Matters for Accounting Firms
The accounting profession is entering a period where AI capability will directly affect firm value, client service, operational efficiency, and risk exposure.
But with that comes new questions:
- ▸How do firms evidence AI governance to clients, regulators, insurers, and professional bodies?
- ▸How do they manage operational risk when AI is embedded inside tools they do not directly control?
- ▸How do they balance innovation with professional responsibility, client confidentiality, and resilience?
AIGAS™ is being built to provide clear, practical answers to those questions – not through theory, but through real-world, implementable frameworks.
Markis’s experience in operational risk, GRC software, regulatory engagement, governance design, and high-pressure leadership will help ensure AIGAS™ remains both credible and usable.
Building Something That Lasts
The long-term vision for AIGAS™ is not just a certification – it is a living standard, shaped by practitioners, evolving with technology, and grounded in the operational realities of accounting firms.
The Advisory Board is central to that vision. It ensures that AIGAS™:
- ➤Maintains independence from any single vendor or commercial influence
- ➤Reflects real operational and governance challenges faced by firms
- ➤Stands up to scrutiny from insurers, regulators, professional bodies, and clients
- ➤Continues to evolve as AI capabilities and risks develop
